Codecademy

A site I’ve mentioned individually to a few people here and there, Codecademy teaches you the basics of programming for free. You can have a go at HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery and PHP to get your website programming knowledge up to par, or jump in with Python and Ruby to have a go at some deeper programming languages that will allow you to build desktop applications. Codecademy also offers a Pro option if you wish for more resources to help you learn, and access to knowledgeable advisors to help you out.

Once you know the basics of a programming language, you’ll find it easier to learn others and extend your knowledge out into the wild. So why not give this a go during the holiday period as a way of procrastinating. Such skills will come into use as we enter deeper into the digital age.
